Mammoth Ski Area Buys Big Bear Mountain Resorts

Bear Mountain Resorts owner and operator of Snow Summit and Bear Mountain ski resorts in Big Bear Lake, California has been acquired by Mammoth Mountain ski area. Mammoth also owns June Mountain making four mountains on the same ski pass, yet with one big experience. Together the four resorts host over 2 million ski visits annually with Big Bear having 800,000 and Mammoth 1.2 million or more. Mammoth traditionally has the longest ski season of any resort in Southern California and combined with Bear Mountain resorts, can now offer both dual mountain vacations, extended family vacations, or short weekend getaways all with the same ski pass. This also makes vacation planning in Big Bear easier as Big Bear Reservations is owned by City Concierge a company that has its roots in Mammoth.

The combination of these four resorts means that Southern California can get their "ski fix" when the storms hit either by going local, or to a destination resort. Snow Summit and Bear Mountain are only 2.5 hours from Los Angeles, and locals know that it really takes only a 1.5 hours or less to get to the bottom of the grade. Mammoth with its average 5 hour drive time takes a bit longer, but has consistently been the leader in visits with the So Cal audience planning 4-7 day vacations all season long. With the added Mammoth airport, the rest of the country is now experiencing why Mammoth is always in the Top Ten Ski Resort Destinations as rated by the surveys.

"The creation and expansion of Mammoth to Big Bear on one ski pass means our customers will benefit by having one lodging company able to provide proven accommodations along with service at both resorts, and with great packages to both stated Jefferson Lanz, CEO of City Concierge parent company to Big Bear Reservations Rental Agency. We've know for a long time that Mammoth and Big Bear were compatible companies which is why we expanded to Big Bear in 2007 after opening Mammoth City Concierge back in 2002."

To celebrate the acquisition, Big Bear and Mammoth has announced a new joint season pass that includes unrestricted access to all four mountains at the rate of $689 for adults. The pass is being branded The new "Cali4nia Pass" and will be available at for a limited time only. This is a first as season passes are traditionally sold in April when resorts compete with each other to get the future seasons commitments. All current Mammoth MVP pass holders will get an automatic upgrade making their passes valid at all resorts, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain, Snow Summit and Bear Mountain.

The new Cali4nia pass makes skiing more often so much simpler. At Mammoth, 7 ski days pay for the cost of the pass and that means that the Big Bear crowd will be skiing and riding for free on the joint pass. Most die hard Mammoth guests come more than once during the season and vacation an average of 3.5 nights on each visit. Big Bear is traditionally a 2.5 night stay for a guest according to Lanz.

With the new acquisition, Snow Summit, Bear Mountain, June and Mammoth will be looking at new upgrades to service, lifts and operations. Both towns share the same rustic charm and have not evolved as fast as other world class resort, however, the future looks promising for Southern California skiers and the loyal Mammoth / Big Bear vacationers.
