Snow Summit Mountain Biking

Lake Tahoe, like Big Bear is a four season mountain resort community. Similarly, you'll ski and snowboard in winter, boat, hike, mountain bike and play in the water in summer. Lake Tahoe is the #1 California destination.

Snow Summit Bike Bike Park Expands

The snow has melted, the sun is out and the Snow Summit Bike Park is now in full swing for nearly 6 months of spring and summer. Two new trails from top to bottom mark the changes happening this year and it is one of the reasons MTBparks.com has voted the Snow Summit Bike Park consistently in the top 5 in the nation.

Currently only opened on weekend, on June 16, the park begins its regular summer hours seven days a week and will stay on regular schedule until September 14. The park will then go back to weekend only hours until time to close up and get ready for the snow season.

"We're thrilled to give mountain bikers the opportunity to enjoy our bike trails in April, which is the earliest we've ever offered this. It is going to be a long wonderful summer." Chris Riddle, Marketing Bear Mountain Resorts

The Scenic Sky Chair hauls mountain bikers to the top of Snow Summit. With the only chairlift service in Southern California, it is the fastest ride to the top, with spectacular views of the valley, the lake and the surrounding San Bernardino mountains. Once at the top, riders can choose to ride down the face of Snow Summit, or ride via the cross country trail system and go down on Skyline Trail and Pine Knot Trail both single track bike trails.

For intermediate riders, the popular trails is The Westridge Trail. It connects with the advance trail called Party Wave. Bear Mountain resorts developed a new top to bottom trail last summer called the Miracle Mile Trail which is a is an advanced run for experienced mountain bikers. The trail has features such as "step ups", "banked turns" and "bridges" making the ride at the top more exciting. Also added for beginner level riders is a new trail called "Going Green" specifically designed for a longer ride for the first timers. If you're serious about your bike riding, you may want to invest in a season pass as just 7 days and it is paid for. And a little known fact, but if you also bought a winter ski pass for the coming season, you can get the bike pass at a major discount.

You can also ride the Scenic Sky Chair and walk down if biking is not your thing. It is great sightseeing and hikers and walkers enjoy the views of the lake and surrounding mountain terrain. It's the only time you can get a cushy ride to the top of the 8,200 ft summit and get that birds eye view. This is one time where advanced means nothing as even a beginner can stroll down the mountain and take in the scenery.

But it is not just mountain biking that guests come up to Big Bear for. The lake is the other fun filled area with water-skiing, wake-boarding, paddle-boarding, fishing, jet skiing and more. Combining the two makes for a nice long week as Southern California's favorite resort. Big Bear is busier in the summer than in the winter, so you'll want to plan your Big Bear vacation sooner rather than later to get the best choices on cabin rentals. Bear Mountain is usually the last resort to open and the first to close as it is not as large as Snow Summit. The great thing though is that you can buy a pass that is good at both resorts. When you purchase them online you can save on your lift ticket cost.
